As the German philosopher Immanuel Kant said, “A human being is always a result of education.” Humans grow and develop into humans through education. From infancy to adolescence to adulthood and old age, our lives are a constant process of learning and education, and home, school, the workplace, and society are all practicing fields of education. Our department aims to foster talented people with professional skills in education, leading to the era of lifelong education by forming a wide range of expertise and understanding of educational activities closely related to our lives and cultivating the practical ability to engage in various forms of education.
Graduates can obtain a lifelong education teacher's license and have a wide range of opportunities to obtain various certificates related to education. They may work as lifelong educators who plan, conduct, and evaluate educational programs in each area of lifelong education, such as education for school, youth, adults, women, and the elderly, or as educational experts in extracurricular courses and special schools. Graduates can also attend graduate school of education and other fields such as social welfare and general graduate schools, or choose career paths in various fields such as education research and psychological counseling.
Over the past two decades, the 50,000 graduates from our department have advanced into various sectors of society and are using their excellent educational competence to develop our society. They are playing a pivotal role in achieving social progress as professors or professional researchers after attending graduate school and earning PhDs, as operators or working-level officers of numerous lifelong educational institutions, as after-school teachers or nursery teachers, as counselors or community welfare specialists, or as civic education activists or volunteers. Accordingly, our department is serving a leading and central role in both the theory and practice of lifelong education and adult education in Korea.
